Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1

I am still able to recall my first experience with the original Fatal Fury back in 1991. There was a variety store across the street from the high school that I attended at the time. The back of that variety store always housed two coin-op machines. During this particular occasion, the cabinets were a Street Fighter II machine (as was the case with every variety store and arcade on the planet at the time) and adjacent to it was a Neo Geo cabinet featuring the original Fatal Fury. This “Street Fighter II copycat” instantly grabbed my attention and I happily gave it a whirl pitting Terry Bogard against Balrog impersonator, Michael Max. In spite of getting my rear end clobbered, I was pleased with the experience as SNK’s alternative to Street Fighter II left a good impression on me. At the time, Neo Geo games impressed me with their advanced (for that era) graphics and crisp stereo sound and Fatal Fury was no exception.
